Natural Tinnitus Relief: Herbs and Supplements to Stop Ear Ringing

March 29, 2021 By //  by Soham Palmer

Tinnitus, known more commonly as ringing in the ears, is a condition characterized by chronic ringing, buzzing, roaring or chirping in the ears. The sounds can be low- or high-pitched and may be constant, intermittent or pulsing. In some cases, the condition is accompanied by extreme sensitivity to sound. Natural tinnitus relief is available, although it may be necessary to treat the root cause of the problem in order to completely relieve symptoms.

What Causes Tinnitus?

What Causes Tinnitus

Tinnitus is most often caused by prescription medication or damage to the inner ear, but it may also be the sign of a more serious underlying condition such as high blood pressure or tumors. Rarely, tinnitus is caused by blood rushing through an enlarged vein, which requires medical attention. Hardening of the bones in the middle ear, a condition known as otosclerosis, and wax build-up in the external ear canal may also cause ringing in the ears.

Because there are so many possible causes of tinnitus, sufferers of the condition should consult a physician prior to treating themselves with natural remedies. Once serious medical problems are ruled out, patients can manage symptoms with herbs, supplements and simple lifestyle and dietary changes. These tinnitus treatments may help individuals resume normal activities and improve hearing, which may have been reduced by the condition. visit here: https://www.laweekly.com/silencil-reviews-best-tinnitus-supplement/.

Dietary Changes for Tinnitus Relief

Making changes in diet may stop ear ringing by improving poor circulation, which is often implicated as a cause of tinnitus. Limit the daily fat intake to around 25 percent of total calories for the best results and eliminate or severely restrict alcohol and caffeine consumption. Caffeine aggravates the mineral imbalances that are often associated with tinnitus and alcohol has an inflammatory affect on the inner ear. Patients who cut back on these substances often notice improvement in symptoms.

Lifestyle Changes as Tinnitus Treatment

Some simple lifestyle changes that may provide tinnitus relief include quitting smoking and protecting the ears from loud noises. Nicotine found in cigarettes increases the risk of ringing in the ears because it is also a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and arteriosclerosis, both of which can cause tinnitus. It is known to exacerbate symptoms in sufferers of the condition. Loud noises may also aggravate symptoms. Wear earplugs in high-volume situations as often as possible to prevent further problems.

Supplements that Provide Help for Tinnitus

Several dietary supplements have been used to provide natural tinnitus relief. One study published in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology in 1991 found that 25 percent of patients taking 90 to 150 milligrams of zinc supplements per day for three to six months experienced improvement in symptoms. Preliminary Japanese studies, however, found that taking zinc is only helpful for patients who are already zinc-deficient. A doctor can measure zinc in the blood and recommend a safe dosage.

Another double-blind study, published in Laryngoscope in 1998, found that 3 milligrams of melatonin taken nightly improved tinnitus symptoms. Among the participants, 47 percent reported sleep improvement within the first month of taking melatonin compared to only 20 percent who took a placebo. Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates the biological clock and is believed to help induce sleep and stop ear ringing in some cases.

Herbs for Tinnitus Relief

Herbs for Tinnitus Relief

Several herbs may help patients manage tinnitus symptoms. Ginkgo biloba, for example, is widely used in Japan and Germany for treating poor circulation in the brain, which may cause ringing in the ears. Take 40 to 80 milligrams per day for up to six weeks and then reevaluate. If symptoms have improved, continue the same dosage for up to one year. Never exceed 240 milligrams per day and don’t take in conjunction with blood-thinning medications.

Lesser periwinkle is another herb with reported benefits for individuals seeking natural tinnitus relief. The herb contains a substance known as vincamine, which is used in Germany to reduce ringing in the ears. Although further research is necessary to prove the efficacy of periwinkle for treating tinnitus, there are no known side effects of taking the herb in moderation. Extracts, however, are not widely available outside of Germany.
