How to Make a Monocular

January 9, 2021 By //  by Soham Palmer

Monoculars are used for looking the distant objects with a clear view. They are coming in a variety of magnifications from 6x to 12x ranges.

These monoculars help you see the larger and clear images of the objects, and you can take help from monoculars in birding, hunting, swimming, reading, and even for complex tasks in low light or small objects.

Monoculars are available in the market in different varieties and ranges, but they are costly, sometimes; we cannot get the right one due to the lower budget.

There is no need to worry; we have an idea for you that will help you make your own monocular with a low budget but offer better magnifications.

How can you make a monocular?

How can you make a monocular
  • First of all, you will need to arrange the required tools and materials. You should have a box cutter, coping saw, strong glue, drill, and two lenses and tubes for making a monocular. Make sure you have arranged the right size tubes and right magnifications offering lenses.
  • Cut the outer tube with a box cutter carefully to insert and connect the inner tube with the outer tube.
  • After cutting the outer tube, now cut the inner tube and cut the tube smooth and straight with the help of a coping saw.
  • Now take the drill and make an eye-hole in the mailing tube, but make sure to make the eye-hole at the middle of the cap. Try to make it smooth and clean to get a better view of the objects. After the eye-hole with the drill, make holes on the outside of the large tube, where you will need to insert the lenses in the tube.
  • The lens with an eyepiece at the eye-hole makes it as that the lens is properly fixed in the hole with glue bind. For that, turn the lens and spread glue on it and then place it in the eye-hole properly, leave it for some time to make the glue dry.
  • Connect inner and outside tubes and insert the first spacer into the outer tube of your monocular. But try to place the spacer flat and in line to hold the concave and convex lens at their right places.
  • Now insert the second lens for the object piece and also insert the second spacer. After placement, insert the inner tube in the outer tube, make the right focus by sliding the lenses forth and back in a smooth way.
  • That’s if you have made your own monocular, which will make you able to get a clear view of distant images; if you have a 10x or 12x, you can see the far images even the surface of the moon.

There are wonderful monoculars with 12x magnifications, which makes you see the surfaces of the stars in the sky.
