How to Select Crusher Wear Parts

March 27, 2022 By //  by Soham Palmer

When it comes to wearing components for your crusher, this guide can be extremely helpful. In addition to providing you with the information you need to make an informed decision, it also helps you expand your knowledge about the different types of wear parts available in the marketplace. In general, there are two main types of wear mechanisms – abrasive wear and fatigue wear. Abrasive wear occurs when wear components experience multiple compression and impact loads. High-stress abrasion occurs during the crushing cycle, and low-stress abrasion occurs between crushing cycles.

Manganese steel

Manganese steel

Wear parts made of manganese steel are known as liners. They can be of different grades, such as those that contain 14%, 18%, or 21+% manganese. These liners are ideally suited to crushing operations where they need to withstand abrasion from hard rocks. However, when choosing a manganese wear part, there are several factors that need to be considered. Fortunately, there are a variety of options available to meet a wide range of requirements.

The manganese content of a wear part will vary based on its application. A higher manganese content makes it more ductile, durable, and work-hardening. For instance, an 11-14% manganese steel wear part is best for low-abrasion rock. An 18% manganese steel wear part is a more common type. Most applications can be handled with this type of material, check out the post right here.

Manganese alloys

While the abrasion resistance and work-hardening characteristics of manganese alloys can vary widely, these compounds are well suited for many applications. In fact, the higher manganese content of the alloys is not a significant advantage over the lower manganese content, and they work at the same level. In other words, a higher manganese content does not necessarily mean better wear resistance.

One of the advantages of manganese alloys for crusher wear parts is their high hardness. Manganese steel can withstand high wear and tear for a long time. It can be applied to cone crusher parts and jaw crusher liners. These wear parts should meet the manufacturer’s specifications. Manganese wear parts made from these materials are generally made of 14% manganese, with the rest being 18% or more.

High manganese steel

When selecting high manganese steel for wear parts on your crusher, the following considerations should be taken: The type of material to be crushed, whether it is hard rock or soft rock, and the desired size. Also, consider tramp metal and whether or not the crusher is jaw or cone-type. Then, determine the manufacturer’s specifications, and choose a material with the appropriate manganese content for the task.

A common type of wear part is made of manganese, which is a form of iron that is comparatively cheaper than other types of metal. Wear parts made of manganese typically have an abrasion resistance of up to 450-500 HB. Because manganese can be brittle, it must be matched to the appropriate material. In many cases, crushing operations are replacing worn-out parts with new ones.
