Google has SEO’s bouncing up and down in their ergonomic chairs with excitement thanks to the recent changes within Google analytics. GA is now sharing data with webmaster tools giving webmasters and site owners a whole new section of analytics data to read in a new section called ‘Search Engine Optimization”.

Now I am not going to tell you how to set-up Analytics or Webmaster Tools here, I am going to presume you already have done this or have the knowledge to do this. Although I may do this in a future post.

To bring up the new data you need to have your Google analytics account linked to your webmaster tools to do this:-

1. You will need the new version of Google analytics set up. To do this click the new version! button at the top

2. Click on traffic sources, then search engine optimization and you will be presented with the screen below

3. Here we need to associate our webmaster tools account. So go to back to your webmaster tools and you will presented with the following screen, click “manage site>Google analytics property> and link the account that matches your analytics account

And hey presto!. You will be presented with a whole new range of data to research!. Including impressions your keywords have made in the Google results, the percentage of these that have been clicked through (great for tweaking your meta description to improve click through) and the average position your site achieves.

This is an important breakthrough in Google history, as the search engine engages with webmasters and SEO’s by producing useful tools to help the ranking process.

Happy Searching!
